Center for Responsible Citizenship
Be a part of something bigger
The Center for Responsible Citizenship cultivates sustained inquiry into the questions that connect us. Through symposia, reading groups, public lectures, and civics initiatives, we bring students, teachers, and community members into serious conversation with primary texts and with one another — from high school classrooms to the Lee University campus and beyond.
Our work is grounded in a conviction that healthy communities are built slowly, in friendships shaped by honest disagreement and shared inquiry. The CRC is a place where difficult questions can be asked in good faith, where neighbors learn to trust one another, and where the public square is seen as a place for dialogue about a life lived in common.
Conversations that Matter
A place for thoughtful dialogue, where students, faculty, and community members meet as neighbors. We bring diverse perspectives to the table, explore the questions that shape our common life, and build the trust needed for true civic friendship.
From Campus to Community
We work to rebuild our social fabric at the local level, cultivating trust where the bonds of friendship should be the most natural. We start with the undergraduate students here at Lee University. These young men and women are at a formative moment in their lives, where they will decide whether to cultivate themselves, their place, and the people in it, or whether they will give up and go it alone.
The CRC connects them with community leaders and fellow citizens, encouraging thoughtful, respectful, and intergenerational dialogue. We host reading groups, discussion dinners, intercollegiate discussion symposia, mentorship and scholarship opportunities, a Constitution Day Quiz Bowl, and a whole host of events designed to meet students as they grow into members of a broader community.
