Summer Seminar
On May 26th, we will host our fourth annual Summer Reading Seminar—a day-long discussion seminar convening a mixed cohort of undergraduates and regional high school students.
This year’s seminar explores the theme of Shakespeare and Statesmanship. Through close engagement with one of Shakespeare’s political plays, participants will examine the virtues, vices, and vulnerabilities of leadership. What does it mean to rule justly? When does ambition serve the common good—and when does it corrode it? What role do counsel, character, and conscience play in moments of national crisis?
In conversation with Shakespeare’s timeless language and dramatic insight, we’ll consider how literature can illuminate the challenges of public life and the moral weight of political power. This inquiry aligns with CRC’s 2025–26 focus on “American Statesmanship in Response to Tyranny,” marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Participants will receive a copy of the selected text, lunch, and a $50 gift card.
