Past Events

Our annual events include, and are not limited to, the following:

Annual Symposium

Every year the CRC hosts a two-day interdisciplinary and intercollegiate symposium on civic virtue and thought. The event brings together approximately 85 students, faculty, alumni, and members of the broader community representing various colleges, universities, and institutions from around the nation. The symposium includes socratic-style seminars and a keynote lecture from an expert on the year’s theme.

Lecture Series

Each semester we bring a prominent speaker to Lee’s campus to introduce students to topics of contemporary relevance on the year’s theme. Following each of the lectures, a small group of students continue the conversation over dinner with the speaker and select faculty.

Our weekly student-led reading group discusses the nature of American citizenship as it flows from its history and founding. The group’s structure and agenda models openness and free dialogue, with the content and direction of the conversation set by its participants. When possible, the book’s author, or a relevant scholar, is invited to meet with the group.

Constitution Day

Teams of high school students from across the state compete at Lee University on questions about the American Founding and Constitution. This day-long event is headlined by a guest speaker who stresses the relationship between responsible citizenship and our founding principles.

Summer Seminar

Through a mixed cohort of undergraduates and regional high-school students, this day-long Liberty-Fund style seminar uses the lens of American fiction to consider the formal and informal institutions that shape our societal mores and vision of American Identity.
